The sixth Axalta Colour Experience Room has now opened in Milan, one of the world’s design capitals. The 80sqm showroom will support Italy’s industrial designers and architects in specifying the best powder coatings for their projects. Axalta is growing its market share in Italy and the opening of Milan’s Colour Experience Room demonstrates the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting the architecture and design sector. The space has been designed as a white ‘cocoon’ full of daylight, with very little to distract from the coating samples on display. Ana Cecila Montiel, Colour Specialist and Specification Leader, based in Milan, explains the significance of having the sixth Colour Experience Room in the city: “In this region, there’s a strong culture of experimental design, as well as a long history of interiors and furniture manufacturing. As we continue to grow our market share in the Italian architecture and design sector, it makes perfect sense to offer an on-demand showroom service to specifiers based in the Milan region and beyond.” A former student of architecture, Montiel understands the complexity of colour in design: “The psychology of colour is so important. The colours around us affect how we use a space and how we feel. This is all closely linked with perception; we perceive colours differently depending on light, other colours nearby, and our own cultural colour references. Therefore, we wanted to create a ‘white sheet’ for architects and designers; a space for them to explore the thousands of colours and finishes that can be specified for a project.” The Colour Experience Room family was born in Lummen, Belgium in 2016, followed by Lódź, Poland, in 2017, and is supported by COLOUR it, a web-based tool developed by Axalta to assist in the design process. Alongside Lummen and Lódź, Milan joins London (UK), Istanbul (Turkey) and Montbrison (France), as a Colour Experience Room host city. Located in Cavenago di Brianza, 25km northeast of Milan, and home to the headquarters of Axalta Italy, the showroom offers an important opportunity for training and project support, and will become an invaluable tool for the Axalta team. Within this quiet and calm environment, designers and architects will be able to explore over 1000 different colour and texture options available for their projects.
